Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings

Our dental checkups and cleanings are recommended every six months and include digital radiographs, a comprehensive oral examination, and a thorough cleaning that removes all plaque and tartar. This process keeps smiles healthy between appointments, as we will look for cavities, gum disease, oral cancer, and other similar issues that can result in complex dental care. We will also discuss ways to improve oral hygiene habits so that you and your loved ones are empowered to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Fluoride Treatment

Known as “nature’s cavity fighter,” fluoride is a natural mineral that keeps decay from harming teeth and strengthens enamel. It’s commonly found in toothpaste, tap water, and many fruits and vegetables; however, some patients do not receive enough exposure to adequately protect their smile. This is why we can apply additional fluoride during a regular checkup so that teeth remain safeguarded in the months ahead.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are commonly recommended for younger patients with permanent teeth because the molars are often the hardest to reach when brushing. However, adults can also benefit from this treatment option, especially if they’re prone to cavities. Dental sealants consist of a clear coating that’s applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth to prevent food particles and bacteria from penetrating the enamel. A curing light hardens the sealants into place, ensuring they last up to 10 years.

Nightguards for Bruxism

Teeth grinding (bruxism) affects millions of people, many of whom do not know they unconsciously do it. As tooth enamel wears down and jaw pain becomes more prominent, a custom-made nightguard can cease further damage and discomfort. Crafted with the help of digital impressions taken of your mouth, you will wear the custom device to bed so that your teeth do not touch, eliminating the potential for further enamel wear. The appliance also alleviates tension in your jaw joints so that you don’t develop TMJ dysfunction.

Athletic Mouthguards / Sportsguards

No matter the sport, a custom-made athletic mouthguard is an essential component of any athlete’s safety gear. Unlike store-bought varieties that are one-size-fits-all, ours are custom-made to match you or your child’s smile as well as protect against sudden impacts that affect the teeth or jaw. By wearing a comfortable athletic mouthguard, you can reduce the chances of seeing an emergency dentist and instead spend more time on the field.

TMJ Treatment

Consistent jaw pain requires comprehensive care, especially if Dr. Cannady believes you have temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder. If inflammation or significant damage occurs within these jaw joints, we can recommend occlusal adjustments/equilibration or a custom-made occlusal splint. Depending on the cause of the jaw pain (i.e., bruxism, facial trauma, or bite misalignment), we will choose the right solution to remove the source of your pain.
